Rawal started his political vocation when he started serving as Jhalanath Khanal's consultant in 1990. From 1992 to 1993 he served on the United Nations' Cambodian decisions board and later partnered himself with Madhav Kumar Nepal. In 1994 he was chosen into Parliament taking after by being its Minister for Commerce, Tourism and Civil Aviation till 1995. From 1998 to 1999 he served the same positions for second term furthermore was Minister of Science and Technology. In April 2008 he was Proportional illustrative of the second Nepalese Constituent Assembly. In 2009 he talked at the Millennium Development Goals' meeting about Least created nations. After the meeting he tended to the Third UN Private Sector Forum with respect to destitution and hunger and encouraged the legislature and different private areas to cooperate keeping in mind the end goal to shape economy's collaboration.
